£325 per person – this is a two part programme which takes place on Monday 10 November and Monday 17 November, you must attend both sessions

This 2 day course will train staff to feel more equipped and confident when dealing with mental health issues.

In education settings staff are dealing with increasing levels of mental health difficulties in young people and in colleagues. YMHFA training is for anyone who works with or supports young people aged 8-18. The training will improve understanding of mental health and increase confidence in supporting young people with poor mental health or in crisis.

The YMHFA 2 day course has been updated for 2025 and attendees will now receive three years of certification with access to ongoing benefits by joining the Association of Mental Health First Aiders®.

Youth Mental Health First Aiders will be able to:

  • Explain what mental health is ​
  • Describe how to look after their own mental health and wellbeing ​
  • Describe the signs of poor mental health in young people
  • Explain some of the risk factors associated with poor mental health in young people ​
  • Demonstrate how to apply the Youth MHFA action plan (ALGEE®) in a Youth Mental Health First Aid conversation ​
  • Describe the role of a Youth MHFAider®
  • Know how to use the MHFAider Support App®
  • Know how to access a dedicated text service provided by Shout and ongoing learning opportunities with MHFA England

Please note the course includes discussion about mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, psychosis,​self harm and suicide.

Takeaway:

After completing the training you will be invited to join the Association of Mental Health First Aiders which gives you access to exclusive resources and learning opportunities:

  • The MHFAider Support App®. Access to features such as a 24/7 text support service, signposting to a national database of health services, and insights that teach critical self-care skills
  • The MHFA England Online Learning Hub which includes resources such as course manuals and Youth MHFAider guides ​
  • Online networking. Invites to exclusive quarterly webinars to help Youth MHFAiders carry out their role with confidence, skill, and care ​
  • Monthly newsletters. Youth MHFAiders are kept up to date with all the latest news from MHFA England

Facilitator: Sharon Langdon

Sharon has worked in NHS Mental Health Services in Oxfordshire since 1987, starting as a healthcare assistant in the Highfield Adolescent Unit before qualifying as an RMN in 1992. She has experience in acute in-patient care, community mental health, crisis services, and early intervention in psychosis. Since 2017, she has been a Clinical Practice Educator at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust focusing on staff and student training. A qualified Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Instructor she has been the MHFA Lead in Oxford Health since 2019. She also delivers Youth MHFA training for Oxfordshire Scout Leaders. Sharon is passionate about young people’s mental health and is looking forward to training school staff.

Payment

Payment is required at the time of booking by credit card, debit card or Paypal. Unless otherwise stated, a ticket gives admission to one person at face-to-face and online events. In the event that you share an online event link with other people who then attend the event, including sharing your screen, or you arrive at a venue without a ticket and we are able to admit you, we will invoice you or your organisation for additional tickets retrospectively.

Refunds

No refunds will be given with less than 30 days notice.

In the event of a refund request, please note that the Eventbrite booking fee of 6.95% plus 0.59p per ticket is not refundable.

To keep our event fees as low as possible, we are not able to issue invoices for payment by cheque or bank transfer and we are not able to reserve places without payment.

We strongly recommend that you take out ‘event ticket insurance’ which may cover the cost of your fee should you be unable to attend the event.
