This 2 day* training programme costs £300 per person to include a workbook, manual and certification.

This 2 day course will train staff to feel more equipped and confident when dealing with mental health issues.

In education settings staff are dealing with increasing levels of mental health difficulties in young people and in colleagues. YMHFA training is for anyone who works with or supports young people aged 8-18. The training will improve understanding of mental health and increase confidence in supporting young people with poor mental health or in crisis.

Over the 2 days you will be covering: –

  • An indepth understanding of young peoples mental health and factors that influence wellbeing
  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
  • Confidence to reassure and support a young person in distress
  • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non judgemental listening
  • Knowledge to help a young person recover by guiding them to further support
  • Ability to support a young person with a long term mental health issue or disability to thrive
  • Tools to look after your own mental well being.

Format: In person 2 day course.

*The dates for the course are Monday 11 and Monday 18 November. Attendance at both days is required to complete Youth MHFAider training.

Facilitator: Sharon Langdon

Sharon has worked in NHS Mental Health Services in Oxfordshire since 1987 initially as
a health care assistant on the Highfield Adolescent Unit and from 1992 as an RMN. She
has worked in several clinical settings; Acute in-patient care, in the community as a
CPN and as a Charge Nurse in the Crisis Day service at the Warneford. Sharon has
also been a Care Coordinator in the Early intervention in Psychosis service working with
young people from the age of 14 upwards. Since 2017 Sharon has been a Clinical
Practice Educator based in the L and D Department at Oxford Health in a role which
involves teaching and training staff and students. In 2018 Sharon completed a PG cert
Associate Teacher module at Brookes and she also completed her Mental Health First
Aid Instructor training. Sharon has been coordinating and running MHFA training
courses in Oxford Health for the past five years and to date the 3 Instructors have
trained over 550 staff as Mental Health First Aiders and are on target to train 1 in 10 of
OHFT staff by the end of 2024.
Sharon is a Youth MHFA Instructor and has provided YMHFA training within Oxford
Health and for Brookes University Paediatric nurse students. Outside the NHS Sharon
has run YMHFA courses for Oxfordshire Scout Leaders.
Sharon has a particular interest in young peoples mental health and is looking forward
to offering training to staff who work in schools.

Payment

Payment is required at the time of booking by credit card, debit card or Paypal. Unless otherwise stated, a ticket gives admission to one person at face-to-face and online events. In the event that you share an online event link with other people who then attend the event, including sharing your screen, or you arrive at a venue without a ticket and we are able to admit you, we will invoice you or your organisation for additional tickets retrospectively.

Refunds

No refunds will be given with less than 30 days notice.

In the event of a refund request, please note that the Eventbrite booking fee of 6.95% plus 0.59p per ticket is not refundable.

To keep our event fees as low as possible, we are not able to issue invoices for payment by cheque or bank transfer and we are not able to reserve places without payment.

We strongly recommend that you take out ‘event ticket insurance’ which may cover the cost of your fee should you be unable to attend the event.
