Leeds Climate Commission Project Development and Finance Initiative
Leeds has taken the pioneering step to establish the Leeds Climate Commission to help shape its transition to a resource efficient and climate resilient city. Its members are drawn from 25 of the city’s key public, private and third sector organisations. The Commission is nearing the end of its second year of operation and has raised the profile of the City with its work in pursuing a number of outcomes including its low-carbon initiative for commercial and industrial organisations.
The Commission’s analysis highlights enormous potential to pursue cost-effective, low-carbon measures and shows that exploiting these could cut energy bills and carbon emissions. This analysis has also identified a number of barriers to organisations’ ability to reap the benefits of low-carbon and that many of these opportunities are left unexploited. When faced with other pressures and constraints, organisations can face challenges in terms of identifying and developing project ideas, preparing a business case, linking with investors and securing finance for selective investment.
Project Development and Finance Workshops
The workshops will:
– Explain how implementing energy saving and small-scale renewable projects can be profitable and make business sense;
– Demonstrate how other organisations in the city have benefitted from the transition to low-carbon;
– Provide support aimed at helping your employees to develop project ideas, prepare a business case for Board Level approval, or secure project finance. An overview of the workshop programme is shown below:
Workshop 1 The Benefits of Energy Efficiency and Low-Carbon Business 26th Mar – 3.00pm to 6.00pm
Workshop 2 Business Case Development and Risk Assessment 30th April – 3.00pm to 6.00pm

The programme of workshops will help attendees to deliver low-carbon projects successfully by working through project barriers and to secure investment, as well as to create lasting networks amongst peers across the city.

Throughout the programme, participants will review real case-studies of innovative projects and be able to benefit from peer-to-peer learning, joint problem solving and the transfer of best practice. At the end of the workshop series attendees will be invited to a ‘Post-Project Review and Networking’ event.
