The theme of this session is Inclusive Classroom Practices.

In this session participants will explore how to communicate with learners with SEND in order to teach and assess skills and knowledge effectively. This will include simple but high-impact strategies for presenting new learning so that it is understood, as well as precisely and accurately assessed. Participants will explore how these same strategies can enable learners with SEND to talk about their own learning, and work towards becoming self-regulated in their learning.

Aimed at mainstream ECTs teaching pupils with SEND, learn principles that can transform your thinking, daily practice, and pupil outcomes! Experienced teachers are welcome to attend the session as well.

The percentage of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in mainstream schools grows every year.

Every Early Career Teacher (ECT) needs to know how to meet the needs of complex and vulnerable learners in class. This series of CPD webinars is designed to extend ECT learning during the ECF modules, to support them to reflect deeper on their own practice, and to start to develop their increasingly necessary SEND specialism.

Further sessions are planned for 17 March, 5 May, 23 June these will be aligned to the ECF modules once the learning outcomes have been published.

Matt McArthur is the Assistant Headteacher at Frank Wise School in Banbury, a special school for children and young adults aged between 2 and 19. Matt currently teaches the Year 5 and 6 classes, and is the subject-leader for Numeracy. He was Director of Teaching School at the school for five years, and continues to support the new Oxfordshire Teaching School Hub with SEND-specific strands of Continuing Professional Development, School-to-School support and Initial Teacher Training.  Matt also works for Whole School SEND, delivering the Department for Education SEND Schools’ Workforce Support Contract. He has just finished a Masters degree in Educational Leadership.

Accessing the online event

Following registration for this event you will receive an email from Eventbrite confirming your place. If you did not create an account at the time of booking or someone else booked on your behalf, you will need to create an Eventbrite account. Open the email, select ‘Claim Your Order’ and then choose a password. Make a note of your email address used to make the booking and password – you will need these to access link to the event.

A minimum of 48 hours before the event begins you will receive another email from Eventbrite containing a link to the Eventbrite Online Event page. Login to Eventbrite, using the same email and password you used to create your account. You will now have access to the online event link. This link must not be shared with other people.

Participation in the online event

Our online events aim to be interactive and you will be expected to have your camera and microphone on, although your microphone should be muted. We may use ‘Raised Hands’, ‘Reactions’, ‘Chat’, ‘Polls’, shared whiteboards and shared screens during the session. We may also use ‘Breakout Rooms’ to allow you to work in a smaller group.
