Conference Objectives!
Social Entrepreneurship

In this world of competition, it is alleged by many sections of the society that entrepreneurs and businesses are greatly motivated and overly focused on making excessive profits. This type of thinking is considered narrow and does not address the problems being faced by a civil society. In an ideal scenario, businessmen should concentrate on innovation, invest on untried business ventures, create jobs and contribute to the economic initiatives and programs of a country. He is expected to be social-oriented and create value as well.

According to Joseph Schumpeter, the celebrated 20th Century economist, ‘the function of entrepreneurs is to reform or revolutionize the pattern of production……by exploiting an invention, more generally, an untried technological possibility for producing an old one in a new way, by opening up a new source of supply of materials or a new outlet for products, by reorganizing an industry and so on”.
Social Entrepreneurs and Their Support!

The social entrepreneur supports society through his entrepreneurship skills.

According to J.Gregory Dees, Social entrepreneurship, ‘combines the passion of a social mission with an image of business-like discipline innovation and determination commonly associated with, for instance, the high-tech pioneers of Silicon Valley”.

The most significant and economically vital contribution of a social entrepreneur is that he takes care of the poor, neglected and people living below the poverty line. The underlying message, therefore, is that we need more social entrepreneurs in every society.

If we look at the global unemployment rate including projections as published by the International Labour Organization (ILO), the scenario is not only appalling but it is truly discouraging. For instance, the average unemployment rate was as follows: 2016, 5.5%, 2017, 5.6%. For 2018 & 19, the projections are 5.8 and 5.8, respectively which shows that the trends need to be reversed. In absolute number terms, the ILO’s forecast for 2019 indicates that there will be 219mn people remaining unemployed with gross variations across different region. So, the need of the hour is to create more of entrepreneurs, particularly, social entrepreneurs.

Of course, in a world where mankind faces many social problems such as poverty, diseases and unemployment in the underdeveloped world, we need more social entrepreneurs.

The upcoming Las Vegas Conference would offer a great platform to academicians, entrepreneurs, scholars from across the world to deliberate on key issues pertaining to social entrepreneurship.

You are most welcome to the conference and enjoy the company of global academic community and like-minded researchers.
